Why True Crime?

I have always been drawn to true crime stories, not because of the violence, but because of the questions they raise. How do we know what we know? Who gets to tell the story? What details are left out?

Podcasts I Think About

I listen to a mix of investigative podcasts and more reflective ones. I am not listing specific titles here, but I notice patterns:
  • Some shows center victims and families respectfully.
  • Others feel more like entertainment than information.
  • Tone, music, and narration change how a case feels.
I try to ask myself: Am I learning something meaningful, or just consuming someone else's tragedy? (this is someones real life)

Documentaries & TV

True crime documentaries can be powerful when they give space to the people most affected. At the same time, editing, reenactments, and dramatic music can turn real events into a kind of spectacle.

I am especially interested in:
  • How suspects are framed visually (lighting, angles, photos).
  • Which voices are included—and which are missing.
  • Whether the story ends with "closure" or admits uncertainty.

Ethics of Being a Fan

One reason I made this site is to sit with the tension between being a "fan" of true crime and remembering that these are real people. I like the research, the timelines, the puzzles but I do not want to forget the human cost.

Building this in an old web style felt more serious for true crime. It reminds me that I am just one person on the internet, thinking out loud about stories that are bigger than me.

This page is intentionally text heavy, like many late 90s fan and hobby sites.
